Date: January 11, 2016
Time: 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM PST
Event Description:
January 11 @ 6:30 pm | Free Showtimes: January 11, 6:30 PM The Latah County Historical Society, in collaboration with the University of Idaho Confucius Institute, invites community members to an evening of conversation about historic immigration policies. Since the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882, numerous restrictions on the immigration and movement of specific racial and ethnic groups have been proposed. Some of those proposals have been met with popular support and were adopted by the U.S. government. With the passage of time, many of those same policies have been denounced as counter to the American spirit of inclusion. As American's grapple with today's complex issues surrounding immigration, it is useful to consider how we have approached similar situations in the past. Local scholars will be on hand to share specific examples of how historic immigration policies have shaped the American experience and will take questions from the audience. Admission is free and open to the public.
