Step Afrika! is the first professional company in the world dedicated to the tradition of stepping, a unique dance tradition created by African American college students. In stepping, the body is used as an instrument to create intricate rhythms and sounds through a combination of footsteps, claps, and spoken word. On October 3rd, 2013, Step Afrika will be in Beasley, with a free performance for the general public, kicking off the Humanitas World Arts Festival. This inaugural festival is a collaborative initiative organized by WSU Performing Arts and will feature world music, dance, cuisine, workshops, school outreach programs, and other activities.
