BookPeople of Moscow welcomes children’s author and former NASA astronaut John Herrington of Lewiston, Idaho at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9. He will read from “Mission to Space” which gives a glimpse into astronaut training and his mission to the International Space Station. Books will be available for sale and signing.
Dr. John B. Herrington flew to the International Space Station in 2002 aboard the shuttle Endeavour. An Oklahoma native and a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation, Herrington earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a doctorate in education from the University of Idaho. Following his career in the United States Navy and NASA, Commander Herrington has been an ardent supporter of education, specifically in the Native American community. In 2008, he bicycled more than 4,200 miles across the length of the United States speaking to Native American students and NASA Explorer Schools about the importance of motivation and mentors on their educational journey.
