Sunday, May 5th, the Latah County Fair Building will be set up and decorated to resemble a USO Canteen of the World War II years. The date is significant, since it is the eve of the anniversary of Bob Hope's first USO show at March Field Air Base in California in 1941. The Hog Heaven Big Band will be performing music of the 1930s and 1940s for your listening and dancing pleasure from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m or so. All funds raised during the benefit (admissions, donations, etc.) will go to Inland Northwest Honor Flight, the program out of Spokane that takes World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War Two Memorial and other national monuments.
Dudley Loomis Post #6 of the American Legion is co-sponsor of the event with the Hog Heaven Big Band, along with other area military and veterans groups, to include the Palouse Chapter of the Military Officers Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Other area businesses and service organizations are welcome to participate in co-sponsoring, planning, or helping out at the event, to include advertising, decorating, and refreshments. For more information on the event, or to volunteer to participate in some aspect, you may contact Michael Huebner, with the American Legion, at 882-1246, or Wayne McProud, of the Hog Heaven Big Band, at 882-4483.
