Event Description:
The Palouse-Clearwater Food Coalition is hosting the 5th annual Palouse-Clearwater Food Summit. This year’s event will take place on Friday, January 29 from 9am-4pm at Banyans on the Ridge in Pullman, Washington. Registration will be offered as a sliding scale from $15 - $100 and includes a catered lunch. A limited number of scholarships are available. To register: http://foodsummit5.eventbrite.com/.
The theme of this year’s summit is Feeding Ourselves: Collaborations for Increasing Local Food Access. Food Summit 2016 will feature over 15 speakers working in the areas of seed saving, local food production, market development, farm-to-school, and community food security. The afternoon session will provide opportunities for developing and enhancing regional collaborations in all of these areas. Tables will be hosted by various local organizations and provide attendees a convenient opportunity to learn more about what food-related non-profit groups in our community are doing. One table will be devoted to local food donations that will be distributed to area food banks following the event; all attendees are encouraged to bring local food items for donation.
This year's Food Summit is made possible by the Moscow Food Co-op, the Southeast Washington Economic Development Association (SWEDA), AmeriCorps VISTA, Washington State University Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), University of Idaho Extension, Pacific Northwest Farmers Cooperative/Davidson Commodities (PNW), Washington State University Community Economic Development Extension Unit, and Rural Roots.
The Palouse-Clearwater Food Coalition (PCFC) is a community-based initiative bringing a grassroots approach to growing the local food system and improving community members’ access to healthy, locally grown foods in northern Idaho and eastern Washington.
