BookPeople of Moscow welcomes author John McCarthy of Boise, Idaho from 7 - 8 p.m., Thursday, May 9. McCarthy will read from his new book "Working the Wilderness: Early Leaders For Wild Lands." There will also be a slideshow during the reading and presentation. Books will be available for sale and signing.
John McCarthy moved to Idaho in 1977, to work trail crew in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. He later ran a range crew and worked on ranches in Hells Canyon and the Salmon River country. He started writing about wilderness for the Lewiston Morning Tribune, where he was a reporter for 10 years. He switched to environmental advocacy for two decades, as the conservation director for Idaho Conservation League and Idaho forest campaign director for the Wilderness Society. He is now a disc jockey at Radio Boise with his show Jazz Beyond the Sky.
